Color Fusers Blog Hop: February 2017

Welcome to the February 2017 Color Fusers Blog Hop!  Each month we work with a group of colors to bring you inspiration.  Check out the fabulous colors we have to work with this month.

CFBlog Hop Feb 2017

We only have to use three of the colors, but I love the challenge of using all four!  I was able to pull it off using the fun COOL TREATS bundle from the Occasions Catalog.

Cool Treats by becreativewithnicole.com

It ended up being quite easy to incorporate all the colors with this stamp set.  It all started with the Peekaboo Peach paper from the TASTY TREATS Specialty DSP.  It provided a wonderful background to work with.

Cool Treats becreativewithnicole

Lots of details went into the rest of the card.  A fun sundae was placed in a set of circles and surrounded by the sentiment.  I love how the sentiment circles around the focal point.  It’s a unique way to do a greeting for sure!  I had originally placed the words in a zig zag pattern but really loved it when I thought to put it along the top and bottom.

Cool Treats by becreativewithnicole.com

I hope you’ve enjoyed this COOL TREATS idea!  It was so much fun to create for you!  Now it’s time to move on to all of the other Design Team members blogs and check out their amazing creations!

Thank you so much for hopping along with the Color Fusers!! I hope we have inspired you to create something of your own with our colors this month!

Love is in the Air

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Blog Hop!  This week our theme is LOVE IS IN THE AIR.

I went with the obvious choice and used LIFT ME UP for my card today.  It’s a simple design which is my favorite lately!

Lift Me Up becreativewithnicole.com

I thought about doing this on watercolor paper and adding a wash of blue for the sky, but instead I went with the WATERCOLOR WASH background stamp.  This is one of my favorite backgrounds ever made and it was perfect for this card.

Lift Me up

I added the sentiment in Dapper Denim, it’s a nice complimentary color to Soft Sky.  The balloon was a combination of Flirty Flamingo and Watermelon Wonder.  The pink balloon stand out nicely against the blue sky and white clouds.

SUPPLIES:

STAMPS:  Lift Me Up, Watercolor Wash Background

INKS:  Soft Sky, Dapper Denim, Watermelon Wonder

PAPER:  Whisper White, Flirty Flamingo

ACCESSORIES:   Up & Away Thinlits, Stampin’ Trimmer, Paper Snips, Bone Folder, dimensionals, SNAIL

Non Traditional Christmas Colors

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Blog Hop!  This week our theme is NON TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS COLORS.

ccmfall3

I went with my favorite bokeh technique to create a beautiful sparkly card with SANTA’S SLEIGH.

santas-sleigh-becreativewithnicole-com

The softness of the Flirty Flamingo and Whisper White craft ink create a lovely background for the sparkly silver glimmer reindeer.

santas-sleigh

I added a punch of color with a Tempting Turquoise wreath and the sentiment embossed in black.  The sentiment was actually taken from CHRISTMAS PINES.  I liked the font and the size of the sentiment complimented the reindeer.

Sparkly Reindeer

I’ve gone clean and simple today with the beautiful SANTA’S SLEIGH BUNDLE.

santas-sleigh-becreativewithnicole-com

I love white on white for the card base and top layer.  The gold glimmer reindeer really stands out and sparkles this way!  I added embossing for more interest and dimension.  The PINE BOUGH Embossing Folder is just perfect for a clean and simple look in white.

santas-sleigh

Adding in a sentiment with EMERALD ENVY gives just a hint of color and really pops on this card.  This has been my color of choice so far for Christmas, I just love it!

Spooky Fun Watercolor

Remember the Galaxy Watercolor Technique that I shared awhile back??  Well, I gave this same technique a try for a spooky Halloween night scene.

spooky-fun-becreativewithnicole-com

I layered color onto watercolor paper to give a dark spooky night for my SPOOKY FUN Halloween card.  The picture doesn’t do the background justice, there are little bits of yellow and green showing through in areas to give this card a unique look.

spooky-fun

Most of the card consists of die cuts from the SPOOKY FUN BUNDLE.  I went with Night of Navy as my main color to do something a little different since I am always featuring black for this type of card.

spooky-fun-becreativewithnicole-com

Tomorrow I’ll show you how to do the background and see if I can come up with some better pictures to show how beautiful the watercolor looks.

In the meantime, did you know that the September Mini Session from Create with Connie and Mary is LIVE now??  We have done all the hard work for you!  Just sit down and create with our FULL TUTORIALS!  You get 5 each session and right now we are featuring NEW HOLIDAY PRODUCTS!!!

Spooky Fun Mini Treat Bag

Today’s idea is one that I’ve been thinking about for a few days now and finally got a chance to make last night.  I’ve combined SPOOKY FUN with a MINI TREAT BAG to create a Halloween card.

spooky-fun-mini-treat-bag-card-by-becreativewithnicole-com

Have you notice that I’m a bit obsessed with the MINI TREAT BAG cards???  I think this is the third one this week….but they are just so fun to create!

spooky-fun-mini-treat-bag-card-becreativewithnicole-com

I thought it would be cool to have a scene inside the treat bag that you can see through the window.  I used vellum card stock to show a little preview of what’s inside.  If you look closely you can see the shadow of the tree through the window.

spooky-fun-window

The brick wall paper from the HALLOWEEN NIGHT DSP was the perfect design for the card.  I kept the outside pretty simple with just a few pumpkins and a sentiment.  The real fun is inside!

spooky-fun-window-treat-bag-card

Instead of ribbon or some sort of tab, I used the moon and witch to pull the card out….way too fun!  That little gem of an idea came at the very last minute as I was looking for one more element to finish off the card.

spooky-fun

With the coordinating die cuts, this all came together so easily!  I only had to add a little bit of stamping…this really only took me about 25 minutes or so from start to finish!  My favorite die cut from this is the spooky tree….it really sold me on this bundle.  What do you think?  Do you prefer stamps that have a coordinating set of die cuts?

I hope you enjoyed this tidbit of Halloween inspiration today!  Tomorrow I will have a fall idea for you as will the rest of the Create with Connie and Mary Design Team for our regular Saturday Blog Hop.

Color Fusers Blog Hop: September 2016 – Part 1

Welcome to the first week of the September COLOR FUSE BLOG HOP!  Twice a month on the first and third Monday’s we’ll be bringing you inspiration through color!  September’s hops will feature four gorgeous colors.

color fusers sept 2016

I picked a stamp set you may not have thought of for this set of colors.

Live Love Grow Mini Treat Bag becreativewithnicole.com

LIVE, LOVE, GROW is a favorite of mine!  I just love the sweet succulents and sentiments.  I know you would typically think of this set being in neutrals and greens, but I love the idea of throwing in a Sweet Sugarplum succulent along with the Mint Macaron plants.

Live Love Grow becreativewithnicole.com

To make this a beautiful but functional card, I added a birthday greeting inside along with a couple more succulents.

Live Love Grow

Let’s delve into the nitty gritty and talk about how all the colors from the challenge were used.  Obviously I love SWEET SUGARPLUM, I used it for the card base and one of the succulent plants.  It’s a great light purple that reminds me of the old Pale Plum that Stampin’ Up! had years ago when I first started stamping.  MINT MACARON comes into play with the other plants.  This pale green is such a lovely color and is a great stand out against the plum.  I added in the other two colors as accents.  FLIRTY FLAMINGO is used only with the ribbon for the inside card and the die cut “love” in my sentiment.  It works really well with the card and really adds that little bit of contrast that was needed.  Lastly, RICH RAZZLEBERRY was used with the small flowers on the largest plant.  I used the TREE BUILDER PUNCH to get the tiny flower that would work with the size plants in my terrarium.

Live Love Grow inside card

The inside is embellished a little with the lovely plants and a fun birthday greeting that is a combination of SUNSHINE SAYINGS and LIVE,LOVE,GROW.

Live Love Grow becreativewithnicole.com

If you haven’t tried these MINI TREAT BAG cards, I highly encourage you to!  They are a bit smaller than a typical card so even though they are more 3D, they still fit into the Stampin’ Up! envelopes.  It’s a great way to step up you card making for the WOW factor.  If you’d like to give this style of card a try, check out the supply list below and click on any of the items you would like to order or know more about.

Galaxy Watercolor Technique

Thank you for all the great comments and e-mails about the Galaxy Watercolor cards that I shared yesterday!  I am so glad you all loved this fun technique as much as I do!

Shooting Star becreativewithnicole.com

Here’s the two cards I shared again with this awesome technique.  I have a few pictures to show you how I did this technique with Stampin’ Up! products.  I want to give a shout out to Wendy Cranford who shared this idea on her blog.

Let’s get started!  You will need the following:
Product List

Galaxy watercolor 1

Lay out your watercolor paper and make sure your aqua painter is full of water, you will need it plus more!  On the left side of the watercolor paper you can see the first layer of color that I made.  Take your ink pads, one by one and add splotches of color all over the paper.  Try not to have the colors bleed too much, you don’t want to muddy your nice bright colors.  You will cover the entire page with color splotches of Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point and Rich Razzleberry.  With each of the ink pads, transfer color to the lid and add color to the watercolor paper with the aqua painter.

Once all of the colors are down on the paper, you will start in with the Night of Navy ink OVER TOP.  You want to add a drop or two of re inker to the lid of the Night of Navy ink pad, you will need lots of color.  I added quite a bit of water to the lid as well so the ink will flow over the watercolor paper.  NOTE: Before you add this layer of Night of Navy, make sure your paper is dried from the first layer of color.

Galaxy Watercolor 2

Add Night of Navy ink with the aqua painter over your splotches of color leaving some areas darker than others.  I actually added TWO layers of navy, letting the first layer of color dry well before adding the second.  That’s how I got the nice dark galaxy look that still has a little color showing through.

Once your paper is dry, you will be at the last step.  Get a little bit of Whisper White craft ink in the lid of you ink pad.  Add a little water and use a regular paint brush to splatter white spots over the paper.  This completes the galaxy look.

Galaxy Watercolor 3

Now you are ready to cut up you paper into the pieces you will need for you cards.  I hope you’ll give this a try, it is a really cool technique!  You can see the video that I watched by Wendy Cranford.  Just use Night of Navy ink for the one step that she used black watercolor ink.  Please let me know if you have any questions and I would love to see what you create!

Shooting Star becreativewithnicole.com

Did you know that I did SHOOTING STAR for my card set in the June Mini Session from Create with Connie and Mary??  Yep, 4 cards with this awesome set.  AND, guess what’s already been released that you should check out……….the AUGUST MINI SESSION!  We have 5FULL TUTORIALS for you with new stamps from the Annual Catalog PLUS a BONUS card set with the upcoming holiday set STAR OF LIGHT.
